I've always wondered about how to restore those, too! Some controls are impossible to read since the labels have been rubbed off over the years. Good thing I have the book to review and my memory of my brand new '83 Voyager's controls helps!
I'll be watching this thread to find out what anybody finds on restoring labels.

I've thought about this, and the "best" way I can think is to take some photos to a graphics place. They might be able to figure out the correct font (or one close) and the size, then get the letters cut out of sheet vinyl (this part is iffy, though. This assumes the are able to cut letters that small).

Rather than applying the letters though, apply everything else and use it as a mask. Get some decent pant and either airbrush it on (preferred) or carefully handpaint them and hope it doesn't bleed under.

The lettering on the controls is a real weak point of this motorcycle, and if you're looking at bringing them back, it's not a very easy process.

If anyone has got some good photos of what they are supposed to look like or where I can
get some info it would be much appreciated. Mine has a remnant of some yellow text but everything else has vanished
Thanks

I wonder if getting them engraved into the body of the switch would be an option ? that way you have the black switch body and silver letters, and if deep enough a wipe of paint could fill the grooves ?, just a thought, I have the two NOS switch blocks and looking at them it seems the letters are just stamped on with paint, must be good paint to last as long as it does

after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF

I think the lettering may have been silk screened on to the controls originally?

In electronic PCB manufacture these days you can get very thin metal masks laser cut for surface mount devices which might be suitable?

Google "SMD solder stencil"
