Years since I did this on my XS1100, but that's a similar method to mine.    Do tyres still have a paint dot on the sidewall, which should be aligned nearest the valve when mounting on the rim?

Some do - but the Michelin's don't. And this one required more weight than I like to run.. but I'm too lazy to break the bead and move the tire around... so it is what is!
