A little Help?
1 day 2 hours ago - 17 hours 4 minutes ago
Hi Folks,
I'm doing a write up about ignition coils for 1300s. Please take a look at this spread sheet. Can you fill in any missing information?
Also if you still have the original coils fitted, are the secondary wires replaceable or are they part of the coils?
Thanks in Advance !
Bill

My 1980 B2 came with original coils that had integral secondary wires.
Also the coil part numbers are different for the 1-6, 2-5 and the 3-4 coils. Probably due to the different secondary wire lengths.
#1-6 part# 21121-1017
#2-5 part# 21121-1018
#3-4 part # 21121-1019

Thanks Kawboy,
I can see some order coming through, the biggest hole is for an '83 KZ1300-A5. Does it still have a ballast resistor?

Going by the part #s, 1982 KZ1300 A4 was the last year that used the ballast resistors in conjunction with coil part # 21121-1017 / 1018 / 1019
In 1983 we see no ballast resistor listed and the part# for the coils changed to 21121-1112 for all 3 coils and this new coil now has secondary ignition wires as a separate part.
I don't see a listing for a 1983 Kawasaki KZ1300-A5 . 1983 appears to be the first year of the ZN1300 - A1 Voyager.

I bought my motorcycle with the original coils and their resistance.
When I removed them, I realized that two of them were cracked and had been repaired previously with a plastic heat gun.
I replaced them with "SQUAREPARTS" coils with 3.5 Ohm output to cancel out the original resistances.

Trying to find the differences. I'm thinking that there are two coils that Kawasaki used on the 1300s.
The first is the ZC005 12V 1.6 OHM coil which I think is mated to the 1.7 OHM resistor (28018-1014) on all "A" series, A1 thru A5. This coil is part number 21121-1017,8 & 9.
There's also the ZC006 12V 2.6 OHM coil from the ZNs and I suspect the ZGs, which doesn't use a ballast resistor. With each of these model coils there are some additional letters melted into the coil body "OYC" & "OYD" & "C" not sure their significance.
This information along with a brief discussion about matching the resistances could replace about half of David's coil discussion.

PS: I'll bet my ZC006 12 V coils are your part number 21121-1112 coils.
