since our male Maltese turned 16 and I had a extra set of saddle bags
I fixed them up so we can just switch out the bags and take them for rides

Nice!! Glad to see you're doing the right thing here and not riding around with the pups on your lap. Up here in Ontario Canada, the cops have been issuing Careless Driving charges to those who drive their cars around with animals on their laps citing that the animals deter the driver from paying attention and having access to all the controls of the vehicle in order to drive safely.
Careless Driving is a fine of $400-$2000, with the possibility of up to 6 months in jail and 6 demerit points, mandatory 30 day license suspension with a possibility of up to a 2 year license suspension and if that's not enough they report your infraction to the insurance bureau and that will increase your insurance policies by a marginal 33% on all of your vehicles and any vehicles registered to any family member living at the same address.

One last thought. Seeing how you've dedicated luggage bags to riding access for the pooches, how about grabbing some plexiglass and building some windscreens at the front of the luggage bags and give the dogs a really nice ride out of the direct wind. If they wanted to stick their noses out the side they could. That would be really cool !!

That's Way Cool Stoner! Thanks for sharing. I second the plexiglass windscreen suggestion.

Yeah we have talked about doing that
But for right now we only take them about 10 miles out
and 10 miles back
It can get way to hot for these long hair pups LOL
we carry water and treats for them
and they are tied in place plus there are eye hooks
with short leads and they wear dog harness
so they can't jump out
the old dude seems to like it alot
our little female well shes a wiggler lol
