2026-05-04 Pingel for Chocolatie
I decided to remove the electric solenoid valve.
I just don't seem to have a problem with shutting the fuel off manually.
Additionally, this valve has to add some restriction to an already weak flow of gasoline from the tank to the carburetors.
Pringle pet cocks are expensive but worth it.
They also have a very good flow rate.
The underside of this gas tank looks very good.
I was tempted to keep the OEM, but it is difficult to move.
Rather than rebuild it, I decided to replace it.
It still isn't really good shape, so I'll keep it for a spare.
After I rebuild it.
The Pingle will not fit unless the opening is enlarged.
Before grinding on it, I drained the tank then ventilated it using a leaf blower.
Let it sit for a day, opened up, ventilate it again they get to work.
More to come.

2026-05-06 Chocalatie Pingle Install
Highlighting the area that needs to be removed to allow the Pingle to fit.
Making progress. Grind a bit, test the fit.
Used the leaf blower to cause positive pressure inside the tank, so that debris from grinding did not fall into the tank.
Copper anti sieze on threads to prevent a galling.
The direction stated that no sealant is required.
We will see.
The directions were correct, no leaks.
Finished it off applying a good coat wax top, and bottom side.
The End

My XS1100 had vacuum fuel taps (2) as standard, and they worked very well. I think - if ever I restore my KZ - that I’ll fit a vacuum tap to it.
Are you trying to remove the dents from that tank in the background of your photo? It appears to have an airline connected to it.

Ha, no the dents remain for now. I'm just trying to sort the bike so I can ride it now.
One things leads to another and I feel like I'm losing ground... but these comes w the territory.
I'm not a fan of any restrictive device between the tank and carb inlet on KZ's due to minimum height difference causing low head pressure.
I have so many ancient bikes that it's muscle memory to turn the petcock off..
(Having said that I'll probably forget, flood the engine, hydro lock it at start, bend rods, then have a parts bike!)
