Can you do away with the fuel solenoid on a 1979 z1300 a1

I've done it with my '80.
I removed the solenoid and replaced the fuel tank valve with a new vacuum valve.
This way you ensure that it remains closed when you stop the engine.
Remove a bolt from the intake manifold to connect the tube and create the vacuum line
