GPZ900R Vacuum Fuel Tap...............Questions.
4 years 8 months ago - 4 years 8 months ago
I havent fitted one of these GPZ900R Fuel Taps to a Z1300 for over 6 years now and cannot remember the set up I used to make it work correctly on my last one.
I have a GPZ900R tap ready to fit but obviously want to get it right.
If anyone out there has one fitted to their 1300, can you please confirm to following to assist me ?
1). What INTERNAL Diameter of fuel pipe have you used from the tap to the carbs (i.e 7mm / 8mm) ??
2). Have you included an Inline Fuel Filter between the tap and the carbs ??
3). What INTERNAL Diameter of pipe have you used for the Vacuum Pipe from the inlet manifold to the tap ??
Please and with all due respect...................I am after experience on this rather than opinions, so please only reply if you have this system fully operational and working on a 1300.............!
Thanks

Any chance you can post some pictures of that fuel tap? Curious if it's an option for a ZN1300. I don't need one presently but wondering for future reference.

Here you go !
GPZ900R Petrol Tap.
Has the same hole Centre to Centre as the Z/KZ1300.
You can remove the rear vacuum plate and re-fit with the vacuum pipe in a different direction.
One of the photos is the same tap fitted to my current Z1300.

My opinion: Use the largest diameter fuel-line that will still clamp and seal AND keep the routing as short as possible. If you still have an internal (in the tank) filter that's intact, you can negate the use of an external filter. I doubt your tank filter exists (most don't) so "search" fuel-filter on this forum for what I've recommended and have used without issue for many years. Vacuum lines? - what ever fits.

Thanks for posting Peter. Can you measure and post that centre-to-centre distance of the tank bolt holes - I have a feeling the ZN hole spacing is different but can't remember.

Thanks for replies.
Bucko,
The hole centres are approx 44 - 45mm.
Hope that helps ?
Scotch,
Believe it or not, the taps original inner tank filter is in very good and undamaged working condition, so as you say, maybe no need for an inline filter.........
I think the original stock 1300 fuel pipe had an ID of 7.5mm, so maybe 8mm ID maybe best.................
The issue I have is that if I leave the tap in PRI (Prime) position, the bike runs great at all RPM and speeds, which shows the tap has the capacity to feed all 3 float bowls enough fuel..................but when in the ON position, its all good generally until cruising at 70 mph or higher for more than 5 minutes or so...............then fuel starvation kicks in............so turn to PRI and all good.
I have tried the widest vacum ID pipe possible, but its obviously restricted by the vacuum spur on the tap and on the inlet manifold.
For the life of me I just cannot recall what set up I used on my last 1300 six years ago as that worked fine.
