ZG1300 running much to lean
5 years 7 months ago - 5 years 7 months ago
Hi guys
After recently sorting out why when I turned the ignition on the fuel pump would not operate, it turned out to be a dodgy connector that supplies the power and the block to main relay was loose when pushed into place I have sorted these out
The bike starts easily but the fast idle doesn’t appear to have any effect on the tickover and the bike is running far to lean, this being indicated by the spark plug ceramics looking very white after my last ride, when riding the bike runs great and doesn’t appear to lack power at any speed.
I recently had the injectors professionally serviced and the report states that they now have a good and equal flow rate and pattern, any suggestions on my next move.
Regards
Gavin

HI Gavin,
I am not too strong on Fuel Inj Systems as was born into Carbs..........but I would imagine the main resons why it could run lean is lack of fuel or lack of fuel pressure or both ?
As you have had the injectors worked on recently, that would definitely be my first suspect ?
After that, it would be sensors or Black Boxes somewhere ?
Maybe PHIL from the UK could comment as he knows the FI system on 1300's very well ?

Pete
There appears to be plenty of Fuel available at the filter ( new one fitted in April ) the supply pipes are routed without sharp bends, all the plugs are looking white so it’s not just lean on one of the banks of injectors I.e one or two injector signals,
Last year I posted about the revs going up and down on tickover and was told it was more than likely running lean so I had the injectors sorted, it is now doing this more than before.

HI Gavin,
Despite all you have said, if the pressure from the pump to the injectors is not sufficeint, it could result in lean running.

Just dug out a fuel pressure gauge to check pressure later

Just done a pump pressure test ( gauge is not an all singing dancing one but just out of the packet)
Ignition on pump priming = 33psi
Tick over = 30 psi
4500rpm 28psi
As the internal bore of the gauge spigots are 6 mm there is a reduced fuel flow
Any thoughts guys
