Carb. upgrade ?
6 years 1 month ago
I'm new to the Forum but have been around Classic 70's bikes since I was a teenager. I'm looking for a KZ to restore or build but haven't had any luck yet ? I try to read thru a lot of the Posts and obtain as much information as I can.
I'm an Old Hot Rodder by heart and if I was able to find one of these KZ's and had to rebuild the motor, would the "stock" carbs. be enough to handle an upgrade in the heads ( ported/flowed ) and header ?

There does not seem to be a lot of performance work done on these bikes. But I think you will find the major limiting factor is the head. With the long stroke/small bore of this engine, it was destined to have a wide power band and limited top end.
I think you will find the carbs can keep up with header/better air filter setup and head porting. You might be able to squeeze in a slightly larger valve on the intake OR exhaust.

Frank, Let me locate a decent bike first. I have a 77' KZ1000 that has been built a little with some head works. Runs Great !
