Carb diaphragm spring help!

Hey everyone this is my first post here. My dad tore into the carbs on his 1980 1300 last fall. He got busy and this weekend when he went to finish them up thinks he has lost the springs that go on top of the diaphragms. He had also convienebtly lost his manual (not fun to get old) from what I can tell from diagrams on the internet there don't seem to be springs on them. He is adamant there are. Any info on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

No springs on top of diaphrams, vacuum pulls them up, gravity drops them down

Hi Ryan The guys are right there are no springs. The slides fall by gravity alone as they are fairly heavy compared with other carbs. Make sure there is no build up of varnish in the slide bores as the slightest bit can make them hang. I used to clean mine with a mix of acetone and alcohol but now days the carb cleaner in a spray pack is the good gear.

No spring is correct. A good point is mentioned regarding cleaning the slide-piston and bore. Lacquer-thinner and a soft cloth is the only method I would suggest. NEVER use anything abrasive!!!!!! NO steel-wool, NO "Scotch-Brite", NO rubbing compounds......etc
