i also remember some bikes had a rubber cap that fitted over the tube, i gonna look for some of those as well.
I originally got 3 brass nipple things for mine, they were proper z13 ones (later model I think), and then ordered some silicone caps for the 3 nipples, all worked well, and glad your running well now, and just think of how much you now know about 13's and carbs, you'll be your local expert
after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF

My friend made a nipple for me out of a bolt. He used a mini lathe to drill the center and smooth the threads so it would fit the hoses.
I have no fears of taking those carbs apart again... except for the damn airbox boots.
