1979 A1 tuning
4 hours 25 minutes ago
Hi everyone. I'm starting this thread to get some advice on my A1. I've read a lot on this forum, but some things are hard to find.
Let's start with the fuel cap. It's leaking from the keyhole. I've disassembled it completely and can't find an exploded view anywhere. I can't find the lip seals or the gaskets anywhere (the ones in red). I don't think I can replace them with standard O-rings.
Also the green oring is difficult to find.

Searching online, you can easily find these caps that fit various Kawasaki models, and it says they're also for the 1300.
But they don't look the same; the overflow hole is missing. Has anyone purchased and installed one?
Or I could buy it in the hope of finding the gaskets I'm looking for by dismantling it...

While waiting for the scotch tape floats and Keyster spare parts to arrive to overhaul the carburetors, I took a look at the advance plate.
Why are the slots so damaged?
I haven't touched anything yet.
Can someone post a photo of an intact plate?
And if you can give me information on how to overhaul the entire system, if needed.

It would appear that a P.O. found it easier to "hack-up" the plate to "fine-tune" the Timing!
Hope this will help.

When I get questions like this, I scour the parts diagrams.
Pick up coil plate diagram for a 1979 KZ1300
The 3 5mm x 12mm cap screws item 22 have flat washers and lock washers under them. Yours are missing and that's why the cap screws munched the plate.
