Grade of oil ??? was created by kza13
Hi all, it's getting warm down in Australia, up around the 33c (95f) lately and it's only spring, good riding weather, now I thought I might open a can of worms with a question, at present I use 15W-50 oil, a good quality oil, but i'm beginning to think it might be a tad too thin for the temps down here, what do others think ???
I was thinking of going to a heavier grade, according to the manual we can use up to 20W-50, anyone have any problems with using that viscosity ???, or is there a favourite they use??, cheers Pete.

Hi Pete
I can only guess, however she should be able to handle it unless you do not use any synthetic oils. And always try to have the oid mark at the fullest, the difference is aroudn one litre and that results in around 10° C of oil temperature.
regards,
Holger

Why Have Four When You Can Have Six ?

Over here in cold England we owners tend to mainly use 10w/40 semi synthetic oil.
It must be specific bike oil as our bikes have wet clutches. If you use regular motor oil, it wont do any damage but you may find a bit of clutch slip, as there are additives in bikes oils to stop this, which are not in regular motor oils.
Pete.

I use 10w40 semi synthetic motorcycle oil on my z13's. I have previously used 20w50 on a Yam xs1100 I had with no problems at all but, as Pete mentioned, it needs to be motorcycle specific oil - it was Silkolene 20w50 I put in the XS.

Yeh I see most of the 20W- oils are synthetic now, might just stick with what I use now, I have heard of people putting car oil into bikes, never done it myself, those "friction modifiers" really stuff up wet clutch plates
