Cam Chain Adjustment Procedure?

By the looks of things I have a manual Cam Chain adjuster fitted.
My motor is making chainy chattering sounds so may need adjusting.
What's is the "Dummies Guide" to doing this?

1: With the engine running, back off the lock nut while holding the outer nut adjuster.
2: Turn in the outer adjuster (Slowly) until you hear the clatter noise go away.
3: Once the noise goes away, back the outer adjuster out 1/4 turn, and while holding the outer adjuster, tighten the lock nut down.
By backing it out slightly you should be providing enough slack in the chain to run quiet enough but provide enough tension to keep the chain relatively taught.
Do not rev the engine while adjusting, keep it at idle.

Thanks Todd. I shall try that today.
That's the only chain in the motor that could be making that chainy noise isnt it??
There isn't a primary chain or anything is there?

Neither of the drive chains have tensioners.

Thanks Rick. Its more of a rattle like a primary chain rattle on a harley or triumph so I guess it must be the cam chain rather than a primary chain.
I don't want to play with it just yet as it hasn't really run for over 10 years.
It may well settle down.
