2021-01-05 Leaky Oil Sump Question for KZ1300.com peeps...
Spotting some oil from this fitting...What is it? Can it be removed and refurbished or is holding springs and or other things that
would prevent this plug from being removed? Does it have an o-ring? Or anything else that would prevent removal and resealing?
Can't handle bikes that leak oil. Hell, even 1991 Harley Davidson doesn't leak oil..
Thanks in Advance,
dCarver

Why Have Four When You Can Have Six ?

Its very rare to see an oil leak from either of those 2 plugs at the rear of the sump..................I have never seen it happen before, unless they have been removed and re-fitted for some reason. I am sure thy dont have any O-Ring or Washer to seal them in either. Unless you have removed them recently, its strange it suddenly starts to leak.
As they are quite low on the rear of the sump, could oil be leaking elsewhere and being blown or running back down to that low point ???
Suspect...........large oil filter O-Ring or sump gasket ????

Perfect example of where an exploded view of the part is needed. I like to go to
www.partzilla.com
for part numbers/diagrams. In this case I pulled up a view of a 1982 KZ1300 A4 oil pan. Link here -

There are no internal parts identified behind thise plugs so I'll suggest they are casting access "ports that got finished off with plugs. I would pull the leaker, clean everything up and seal with Loctite pipe sealant

The diagram above is for the later DEEP SUMP, whilst the one shown in the photo on the bike is the earlier Shallow Sump.

I'll put her back on the lift and make absolutely sure it's not leaking elsewhere... but, I'm 85% confident the leak is from the plug.
Kawboy, Thanks! Elegant solution.,., why didn't I think of that, LOL. Sometimes the obvious is so elusive...
