Hi,
hopefully some one can point me in the right direction here.
The tubes that come off the cylinder head, are they connected together or should there be something else attached to them.
Also the breather valve, I know the small tube that connects to the valve also connects to the two outlets on the cylinder block but where does the valve actually fit and where do the two outlets connect to. I think someone did a bodge job on this bike but I want to get it back to its original condition, none of the manuals I have seen show the position of the valve or where the pipes go.
One other thing, there is no petrol valve fitted to this bike just a pipe direct off the tanks tap, will this be an issue with the running of the bike.

Hi Sixpipes,

I'm assuming that you're referring to the tubes that connect to the top of the exhaust cam cover. These were intended to introduce air into the exhaust stream to achieve more complete combustion. Did the system ever work? Probably not! Most owners just connect the two ports together and remove the vacuum operated valve that they used to connect to. This vacuum operated valve was fed clean air from a port on the air box. I've got all the parts we're talking about. I've removed them from every bike I own. If you'll PM me your address I'll send you the whole mess, you just pay shipping.
Regarding your last question: a proper fuel petcock is important should the float valves, one in each carb, ever get stuck open.

Good Luck

Hi Bill

Did you block off the outlet in the airbox ? My KZ has all that nonsense so I'm going to bin the lot. I have a spare camshaft cover which has not had the ports drilled through so that's no problem - just the airbox outlet.

cheers

Billy

Hi Billy,

Yes you must plug the opening into the airbox because it is on the clean side of the airfilter. If left open unfiltered air will be drawn directly into the engine.

Hello Bill,
if its going to run just as well without then I wil take it all off.
The 6mm pipe that comes off the cylinder block I take it I just blank that off along with the inlet on the clean side of the air box.
I think I have not explained myself properly when I said there is no petrol valve, I was under the impression that there was a solenoid valve between the petcock and the carbs? there is indeed a petcock fitted to the tank,

Hi Andy,

I've never found a reason for the solenoid valve in the fuel line. Yes I'd just blank off the vacuum port that ran the whole system along with the connection to the air box.

Regards
