Actually, that's how the chain sits on the gears. The fitment is quite snug, but yeah, that's how it is. I took off the cam towers to check and that's how it sits.

This past weekend I had a little slice of time so I decided to start the valve adjustment process. Well, past me arranged the shims when he took out the cams. However, past me did NOT measure/label the arrangement. In the intervening months, that arrangement was knocked about and thus mixed up EVERY SINGLE F*CKING SHIM.
I reinstalled the shims (measuring them and noting what went where) and then took a valve measurement. Now I need to do a bit of math to figure out how best to utilize the shims I have and what I need to swap.
In other words, past me created several hours of extraneous work for present me.
Awesome.

There is a graph in the workshop manual that will tell you which shim to use to bring it back into tolerance
after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF

If you do a search of the forum using Valve clearance chart as your search wording , you will hopefully find a post that I put on. On it towads the end there is a couple of attachements which have the valve clearance charts and a place to record your valve clearances that my wife made up for me.

Good luck Brandon, got to rebuild mine this weekend and was dismantled by someone, else fortunately he has labeled everything so hopefully all will be reasonably straight forward, if not prepare for your e-mail getting red hot lol.
