BHP can't be measured at the rear wheel (RWH) as there's no easy way to interpolate the losses between the BHP and RWH
So where is it measured then?

Most dynos measure rear wheel horse power (rwhp), a calculation can be made for losses in the transmission, final drive etc. & a crank figure can be obtained that way if required.
Lots of manufacturers gave a crank figure, which was measured with just the engine secured to a test rig & the dynamometer attached to the crankshaft directly to give a crank hp reading. Kawasaki quoted the KZ1300 at 120 bhp, which was a crank figure. At the rear wheel with all the losses they generally measure somewhere between 95 to 100 bhp. The ZG1300 with the DFI engine was quoted by Kawasaki to produce 130 bhp at the crank, they generally produce somewhere between 100 to 105 rwhp. My question to Divman is "was the power he quoted measured at the rear wheel or were calculations made after measuring the rwhp to obtain the bhp reading at the crank?"

You are absolutely right !
The figure given through is measured at crank.
I would be very disappointed in myself if my technician could not operate or understand my AWD dyno that was fitted 3 mnths ago at a cost of 1.4 Million Rands.
