My rebuilt has finally begun.
Some of you guys already know I'm rebuilting a 1981. I bougth the bike in pieces about 15 years ago. The frame was stripped to bare metal with every parts and components in plastic bins and cardboard boxes. I left every thing sit in the garage until tow months ago.
I have to say it's a major undertaking.
So far I did.
- sandblasted the frame, swingarm, brakes calipers, fork tubes, steering sten,
- had every thing powder coated.
- i built a paint booth in my garage
- stripped three engines apart. It's a long story. My 81 engine had a broken engine mount, so i stripped a 79 engine and repainted the engine case. I will also be using some componants from a Zn engine 84 cuz it's in great shape.
- sandblasted the front and rear wheels.
- I bougth new bearings for fork sten, wheels, swingarm.
- bougth fork seals, piston rings, coils (coils were missing).
I started today the rebuilding process. I will try to keep you guys updated on my progress witch will be slow.

Good luck with your 81. Sounds like my bike. So far it is part 79, 80 and 81.

Or, you could put the ZN engine along with it's fuel injection into the KZ frame- should fit. But rarely done , with a few unknowns.
Just an idea.

Tackelhappy, the thought crossed my mind, but i don't have the injectors, throttle body nor the fuel injections electronics.

Cut to approximate, smash to fit!

If you find a cheap source for the EFI components let me know. Right now I'm going with carburetors because, well, carburetors but if a big ol' EFI unit came along maybe I'd switch!

Good on ya! The longest journey begins with a single step. Be assured though that when you get it together, these bikes are DEFINATELY worth it! Any styling direction yet? If you want to play with some ideas you can download a pic of the stocker in black and white, print some off and get out the markers and scissors and have at it. The kids love doing this and sometimes come up with some good stuff! Show us how it's going and good luck.
