Thanks for responding. My carbs were running a bit rich, so took them off to ultrasonic clean them. The cleaning was reasonably successful but, the previous owner has bizarrely sealed each of the mixture screws in with a blob of what looks like epoxy putty on the tops of each one. I expect that will need drilling out and possibly new screws provided and the thing setting up. I don't mind doing the brutal bit, if I have to, but if the carbs survive I will need the necessary bits and then it set up correctly. It's not a trolley dolly bike, so not looking for polished metal!

Contact "Oz" a call at Zed Parts in Bromsgrove: he really knows his stuff concerning Z13's and is very savvy when it comes to setting up / rebuilding carbs.

Is it an American import? If I remember correctly the carb adjustment screw ports were filled with an anti-tampering glue for emissions reasons from the factory, although I'm not sure if that was for all states?

Scotch has done good threads on carb cleaning and seeting. Just because the mixture screws are sealed doesn't mean you need new parts. Float heights seem to be really critical and the air drillings that bypass the throttle valves can block and no ammount of ultra sonic cleaning seems to rectify this. However Scotch has made a tool to do this which works brilliantly. Once back on I'd recommend using a colour tun to set mixture screws as the factory setting is not that good
