engine paints

Been reading about your recommendations on engine paints and have purchased the hammerite silver smooth for my engine, I sprayed a sample on a piece of scrap but found by rubbing my finger nail over it after 8 days it scratched very easy ? The idea I am toiling with know is to go with a 2pak for the engine, some opinions on this would be welcome. I have done a lot of googling and a lot seem to say they have had no problems with a couple saying it flaked off

Doesn't the hammerlite need to be heated to be cured ??, that's why it's engine paint ??, just wondering

not sure but its not actually classed as a engine paint, but I would of thought after 8 days of 35 degree heat it wouldn't scratch but I may be wrong

Ive used hammerite on many domestic external applications (patio heaters,garden furniture) - and on bikes for swing arms, centre stands etc., and always found it very durable, lasting many years without degrading: but Ive never used it on engine casing or blocks before.
But, surprised you've had issues with Hammerite: I know others have used it on engines with good results.

On engines I've previously used Simoniz Silver & Black Engine Enamel (good upto 800C) - and found the end result very good, so I generally stick with that.

Your right, if I remember right I used UHT ... think that's what it was, it's an engine paint, I didn't do a great job of cleaning off the motor and some of it is flaking, but I did do a good job on the tappet cover and she's really nice and covered well, yeh pretty sure it was UHT in a rattle pack from Supacheap in silver

pretty sure you mean VHT. I've used it before and quite like it.
