There were some definite issues with the first few generations of Goldwings.

Having to remove the engine for the clutch and stator comes to mind. There were some tricks to get the stator out but in the end, a PITA.

For the one we just put back into service, I said a big thank you to God, for not having to deal with those two items.

The "cheap" solution for stator issues is to bolt a car alternator to the side of the block and run it off the timing belts. On the plus side, any head work? Easy as pie.
