Hello all. I don't own a KZ1300 motorcycle, I have a race car with a KZ1300 engine in it. It's a small open wheel autocross/hillclimb car, about 750 pounds without driver. I'm interested in communicating with anyone messing with performance improvements. I designed and built this car from the ground up, clean sheet of paper, so to speak, in 1990. It's been sitting in my buddies shop for many years, and we are in the process of getting it going again. Here are a couple of photos of it.

Awesome car, would like to see more photos.

Did you retain the carburetion? What does your exhaust look like? how did you tackle the final drive?

Regards.

Greetings from the UK !

Looks great & a very interesting concept.

I would VERY much like to hear that race car in use (round a track).

Could you possibly post a sound bite, or better still a video with sound on YOUTUBE so we can click on the link ?????

I did retain the carburetion. My exhaust is 6-2, using the stock head pipes and collector, then a larger pipe to the rear of the car, and low restriction mufflers. the final drive was a challenge to say the least. We use a short chain drive to get the drive form upper right to the middle of the chassis, where it drives and industrial right angle gearbox which drives the halfshafts. It is a locked rear end. Here are links to photos of it, it's all pretty grimey in the photos, it had been sitting for a long time. It is now all cleaned up getting ready to be put back in action.

I have some high performance cams I'm getting ready to install as well. With the high flow air filter, low restriction exhaust, high lift cams and some careful re-jetting, I should be getting somewhere around 160-170HP. Not bad for a 750LB car.
When we get it going again I'll try to get some video with sound and post it.

Some good pics there, very interesting.
I notice what looks like an original ignition system there. You may already have done it but have you considered an upgrade to the ignition system, more for the sake of reliability but you probably would get a small gain in performance. The standard ignition system and alternator were apparently 2 of the big bugbears of the early sixes.

RickG,
Thanks.
I installed this engine in the race car in 1990. It's been sitting for many years, and lots of what I learned about it then I have forgotten, and am having to re-learn. there are undoubtedly things such as the ignition system that have been much improved since then. I have not considered it because I did not know there was an option. what can you tell me about an ignition upgrade?
