Hi Guy's, any recommendation for engine paint. Would like a brand that's not affected by petrol, I know this does exist but can't remember the brand.

I have to say that over the years, the most consistent and reliable engine paint I've used was the cheap stuff, Duplicolor ( also the NAPA branded stuff). I have on stuff I sprayed 10 years ago and it still looks good.

I have also used VHT, in fact I used it on my 1300 that I sprayed black. It turned out nice and so far is in good shape, no fuel stains or road chips. BUT... I have had quite a few people tell me they have had problems with VHT and silver is a particularly difficult pint color, and some "high temp" silvers can turn brown or gold.

The classic cars guys I know swear by Hirsch paints... they have an "aluminum" color... may be worth investigating.

Smooth Silver Hammerite mate.

Its the only way to go. Have done over 10 engines with this paint and it lasts forever.

The secret as with any paint job is the prep before you paint.

Get ALL the loose stuff off (I used a wire brush on an electric drill snake neck attachment) and then wash the surface with thinners and let 100% dry.
Next stand the paint in the tin in hot water (not boiling) and apply when warm........it goes on great !
Leave to dry for at least 2 days.
Very easy to touch up if you do get stone chips or damage too.

+1 for Hammerite silver.
I don't think petrol resistant paint exists. Not even the "petrol resistant lacquer" clear coat - as I found out to by cost

I agree with Zoso.

What I will say is that when Hammerite Smooth is fully dry (once engine has been hot a good few times) I have had petrol spills on it and as long as its wiped off within a few minutes, its been ok.
Its only when its still not 100% cured all the way through that petrol will get under it and lift it.

Again I state.............the paint finish and grip is only as good as your preparation befor you apply it.!
