At present when I sit on the seat the back rises and the front rubs against the tank, lift the seat and the only thing holding it together is the side edges, was thinking of plating over the rust section but trying to find some good metal to fix the plate to is the tough one, you see down here you can ride 365 days a year, and if past owners don't keep the seat in good repair the rain gets into the foam and nature does it's thing with water and steel, guess it's comfortable, like a bean bag, forms itself to your butt :-), ok i'll see what I can find, pity most seats I do find down here are all the same, full of rust, wish someone would do a replacement base, would solve a lot of problems, thanks all, cheers Pete.

I recently bought a spare seat with bad cover, but good base and reasonable foam, plus a replacement cover..

I also paid too much for it, thinking about selling it as is, with the cover.

if your interested, pm me, maybe we can work something out

Hmmm and some said the seats on ebay were expensive, just the base from Germany is over $350AU, think i'd rather keep looking for an original steel one :-)

For a while I've been thinking about experimenting with adding fiberglass reinforcements to one of my old seat pans. One of the pans I have are pretty rusted out and the prior owner had gone in and riveted some sheet metal in there to reinforce it. I was thinking of taking a body repair type approach with taking the pan out and dipping it in evaporust to remove the rust. Then I'd start reinforcing the unseen side of the pan with layers of fiberglass and resin. Foam can be taken away to accomodate the extra space needed. Then fill in the rust with body repair putty, sand, repaint and resticker the visible end.

Just something I've considered :). A bit labor intensive though.
