In Zimbabwe we don't have much of a selection when it comes to fork oils, especially when you want to stick to the same brand.....trying out the different oil weights like I have done/am doing.

The 10 weight I used was Fuchs Silkolene synthetic Fork oil
The 15 weight I am using now is Belray synthetic Fork oil
..... and I am now about to try Motul 20 weight semi synthetic!!!!!

I have been unable to find the same brand throughout the weight selection here sadly.
Will advise how the Motul 20 weight performs once done

I have now filled the forks with the Motul 20 Weight oil, tried all different air pressures, had the ride height set as per Kawboy explanation, checked the fork spring lengths, checked the adjustment on the head bearings, went as far as checking that the headlight ears and headlight weren't loose, checked the callipers for rattle, checked the forks and tubes for play etc. etc. and still have the clanking noise.

What next??? I now know the feeling when somebody says they want to throw a match and burn the b#@&y thing!!!

This may be a silly question but have the springs collapsed a bit ??, when you put the top cap on did you have to push really, really hard down to get the thread started ??, perhaps you need new springs or a bit of packing to take up the slack ?, in my old girl there was a 1/2 inch drive socket on the top of each spring, previous owner decided to "preload" the springs, I think the sockets were a 17mm, just wondering if you have tightened all else would the springs be a tad "short" and that is the clunk ??, cheers Pete.

Sounds like time to pull them apart and have a look for piece of mind and it isn't that difficult.
