Thanks for replying guys. It never occurred to me that the factory may have sealed the bits! I assumed I was in for an imminent bodge reveal. The blockage of air bypass arrangements could explain my symtoms. I'm not the greatest DIY man so I think I'll take the advice and approach Zedparts.
