Hi all,

I recently bought a 1979 KZ1300A1 USA model .
When I turn the ignition on, the Headlamp is permanently on and the FRONT indicators stay on full (not flashing). The rear indicators are no on.
The indicators flash correctly when the switch is set left or right and the Hazards all work when the switch is pushed.

QUESTION.

Is there a quick and easy fix / remedy to the wiring to make the indicators " UK " spec (off all the time until the L/R Switch is chosen ) and likewise for the Headlamp ?

Never had to do this job before so fresh to its remedy.

Advice appreciated as ever.

There are three wires each for the dual element bulbs in the front indicators: one for ground, one for running (or park) and one for flash. All you need to do is unplug the wires(s) that feed the running/park element(s). Alternatively, you could try fitting an 1156 (single element bulb into the 1157 (dual element) socket but I'm not sure it'll fit without damaging the socket (also not sure if the single 1156 base contact will make mate with the correct contact of the dual contact 1157 socket).

Thanks again Bucko.

Had a look at this on the bike last night.

Its interesting that the USA spec indicators simply have a twin filament bulb fitted (one filament for permanent on / one for flash) which does make it easy to solve for UK use/spec by simply disconnecting the permanent feed.

Sorted.

I was going to stay out of this conversation and let some of the others chime in, but the obvious hasn't been pointed out yet.

When looking at the wiring diagram for the USA/Canadian bikes and the wiring diagram for the European bikes, the USA version uses the 2 front marker lights for driving lights. The European model has a second bulb in the headlamp which shows as a 12 volt 4 watt bulb for a driving light. Both USA and European systems are powered by a blue wire. I'll assume that the European model has this driving light to meet a MOT requirement, so don't miss this.

Good point and well spotted KAWBOY !

The 12V 4W bulb in the UK spec headlamp is actually known as a "Parking" Light...................which nobody ever uses anyway !

Fact is my USA Spec Headlamp does not have this in it, but due to its age it passed its MOT anyway as its not a legal requirement, just Low Beam and High Beam.

You are also correct on the indicator info..........it was ONLY my FRONT Indicators which stayed on when the ignition was ON, the rears did not come on until the indicator switch was used.
The front ones were remedied by simply disconnecting the extra wire they have (3).

All good now and thanks again for the reply.
