Ok the beauty started on the button after standing 5 days - yippee , it did smoke quite a bit from the left hand exhaust ( not oily) carbon ? Still not touched the balancing rods or checked the angle of bracket yet.

Would anyone know when you put choke on fully when starting what the revs would be ? Would 5000 be wrong as I shut the choke down quick to half way

Mine may not be setup correctly but mine revs about 3000 rpm full on. 5000 seems really high. Maybe someone else will chime in.

It's been a long time but think I have finally sorted bad starting thanks to All, when I originally stripped and cleaned carbs, I then set up initial bench balancing then balancing with gauges on bike. I could NOT achieve the linkage set up as page 50 in the manual, then had great advice from Scotch & Kawboy on the subject, but still could not get correct settings! My big mistake was I tried to adjust the choke linkage cam / settings as p50 after carbs were balanced and fitted! After stripping again I set the correct gap between idle screw & lever and choke cam first, THEN did the bench balancing refitting etc. now starts first time even after a week & does not over Rev at choke. In the manual it is not clear to do the adjustments before balancing - to me anyway!
