Seems that you really only needed the tank for the final shape!

Because of how badly the tank was rusted and the metal was thin in place's the Idea here was to wrap the tank completely in fiber glass so that what was left of the tank would be for ever bonded in glass to keep the shape that it the KZ 1300. As for my skill I have done car panels and things but not some thing like this. I put month of though into how to go about this and a lot book reading on fiber glassing fuel tanks before I start. Just let me say not every thing went according to plan I had to change some things along the way. Here is the left side and the left top of tank you can see its still on the bike. Every place you see paint is where there is a low spot in the fiber glass. I will have to add some glass to them and build them up so as not to take to much of the out side coating off the tank.

Has anybody on this forum tried molasses for removing rust from a fuel tank? It is certainly less hazardous than the acid based cures, but I wonder if it is as effective.

Never heard of Molasses, must be an old farmers trick. Will be interesting to hear if anyone else has experience with this.

I have heard of them.........but never had anything to do with them.

They seem to be in very spicy sauces & that kind of food.

Must have some kinda high acid content to be that good.

Imagine what they do to your stomach & digestive system........yikes !!

I used to redo laminate countertops in fast food restaurants. You should have seen the destruction that the coke/pepsi syrup would wreck on the concrete floors under those counters. On one job the whole 4" concrete slab was reduced to sticky gravel and sand. I can imagine that molasses could be quite aggressive.
