Along the lines of keeping it simple and one of the first steps to perform is purging the engine of air, after filling the cooling system.

At the radiator cap, fill the bike up to the brim, move the beast side to side to expel as much air as possible. Refill as needed. Like others state a 50/50 mix and I wholeheartedly agree with using a Water-Wetter product. It breaks down the surface tension of the water, also use distilled water, depending on where you live, there could be high mineral deposits, or sulfur in the water.

Make sure the coolant overflow reservoir is up to the full mark and that the hose connecting the recovery tank and radiator is vacuum tight.

Disconnect the fan and start the bike up and hold the idle up for a while to bring it up to temperature (this is the tricky part to make sure you don't overheat the engine.) closely monitor the temperature gage. Once it hits the "H" mark on the temperature gage, and with the engine running, Immediately plug the fan back in and observe the overflow tank. If the coolant level decreases air is being removed out of the engine and liquid is going into the block. Make sure you don't empty the tank, or the process will have to be repeated.

Once done, top off the coolant recovery tank and monitor to make sure the level is stable.

Maybe a silly question, but did you "burp" your radiator once you reinstalled everything and started her up?
