When I was a young lad - a long time ago- when you did a cylinder head you used a product called "red hermetite" to ensure a good seal. Is this still good practice, or am I behind the times?

I use the Kawasaki 3 bond on any head gasket I do. I will presume my Z13 has an original gasket as it has never been off in 237### km and is still probably OK so the OEM gaskets must be good.
