This topic found me "Googling" further and I learned something. I have always been under the impression that "Pipe Threads" were universal. Apparently this isn't the case as the following screen capture indicates. It probably explains why I initially had trouble getting a standard brass "tee" to easily thread into the block when I was configuring an oil pressure gauge. I eventually got the Male end to thread into the tapped port in the block. Alignment to start the threads was critical. And....no leaks !

Got the wiring half assed jury rigged back together to test the switch. All good! It goes off when the bike starts cold. Made some progress mounting the aftermarket gauge cluster. Gonna get the right screws and spacers to mount it tomorow at work.

Yeah it's a pain in the ass to figure it out sometimes. And one will fit into the other but not the other way...

Anyway, does anyone know what size threads the water temp sensor at the front of the block is? Seems like 5/8-18 but I don't have anything to check it with. Seems like fine thread 5/8 bolts aren't common down here...

So instead of buying a 15$ reducing bushing for the water temp sensor that would still need modification and take a week to arrive I bought a 2.42$ plumbing fitting at home depot to modify. Interesting discovery through this that m16 1.5 will fit into 1/2 pipe fitting and 5/8 -18 nuts. But not the other way.
Now I need to remember to bring home my crows feet and handle wrenches from work to get the sensor in.
