How is the weather, Kawboy?
What type of heating system do you have in the house?

Pretty messy. -21C yesterday with 80km/h winds. Pic is of a highway plow that ended up in the ditch. I wouldn't want to be trying to explain that to the boss. Secondary roads were scrapped but not sand/salted ???
My house is heated with forced air natural gas and we have 2 fireplaces main floor and basement which I can fire up if we lose power. Last year there was a rebate available for upgrading windows, heating systems and insulation, so I took advantage of the insulation rebate and had all of the blown in fiberglass in the attic removed and replaced with blown in cellulose. The day before they removed the insulation, the A/C ran for 11 hours. The next day after the cellulose was in place, the A/C ran 3 hours. Our heating bill has dropped 40% so pretty happy. Natural gas costs me $100 a month for heat, hot water  and the BBQ. More than half of that bill is delivery charges and storage charges?? How do you charge someone for storing natural gas?? Whatever. !!!
Take care , stay warm.

I cannot imagine what that temperature feels like, never having experienced anything that low.   Definitely not motorcycling weather, though I'm sure there are those who do venture out in it.

My son is in Edmonton Alberta and last week it was -41C. He had to go to Peace River Alberta for work and it's 500 km northwest of Edmonton. His car was registering -57C as he was driving. At one point in our conversation, he said he had to go because the draw of the cellphone was monkeying around with the logistics of the heater control and the heater blower fan would not keep the windshield from frosting up. He also mentioned that about 10 years ago when he was cementing oil well heads, he had to run 200ft of 3" steel pipe and pump 15 cubic meters of cement and it was -64C working outside doing the job in the open. Oh the life of an oil worker.

Thank you Kawboy. I just knew my original question would elicit an interesting response!

That’s an impressive improvement from a change of insulation material.  Your gas heating costs seem quite reasonable compared to what  users pay in Britain now.  I can’t have gas in my apartment, so my heat source is from three old electric storage heaters, switched on at 1:00am by a radio teleswitch.   Due to huge increases in electricity prices, I have set the heaters to minimum, and my average room temperature has been 12c for the last couple of weeks. I wish I could have some solar panels, but not practical.

The temperatures your son encountered must surely prevent a car’s engine oil from reaching an optimum temperature to evaporate moisture. And presumably any exposed skin is in danger of being frost bitten.
I don’t know what to think about supposed global warming.  I’m inclined to believe it is part of Earth’s natural cycle..
Here, our government has stopped power generation from coal, of which Britain has huge reserves , in favour of imported gas and some wind turbines.   We also import biomass from the USA to fire one large power station, which seems crazy.

Crazy is that the USA has plenty oil to export but it's president is hostile toward it as he rides around in petroleum powered vehicles.
