THE RED BUS


There are 33 of these White Model 706 driving around the various Parks . Built in 1936 at a cost of $ 5000 each, they were built specifically for this job- tourists.

They are built on an Oak frame and have a roll back roof



The Ford Motor Co. donated $6 million a few years ago and had all 33 restored , with all new Ford running gear- motor , drive assembly, auto transmission and so on.






Now each one is valued at $250,000

Thanks for the reminder Tackelhappy. I remembered seeing these and then saw the Yellowstone Park plate on one of the vehicles in the picture and realized where I had seen them. Lord help me, some of the things that I need to trigger memories. But maybe that's just the way I'm wired. Now if it's a trigonometry question not a problem. (Why is that?)

Yes Sir. Jerked the fifth wheel out there last year. Stopped to visit my son who's working in Cheyenne Wyoming with Schlumberger Oil Well Services.
Took a run down the Needles Highway in South Dakota. In the pic of the tunnel, at the far end of the tunnel is a sharp 80 degree bend in the road. Some Idiot the week before challenged himself to put a 33ft fifth wheel trailer and truck through the tunnel and then make the bend at the other end. Took the side off of the trailer and then couldn't make the bend. Had to call a tow truck to pick up what was left of the trailer and get it around the bend and back on the road. When you go through thre tunnel, you can see the paint transferrence on the walls.

Hood Tunnel: 10 feet, 6 inches wide; 11 feet, 3 inches high
Needles Eye Tunnel: 8 feet, 4 inches wide; 12 feet high
Iron Creek Tunnel: 9 feet wide; 12 feet, 3 inches high

Wow, these are some great rock formations Kawboy! Great for photography. Must look fabulous at sunrise or sunset. Reminds me of Cappadocia in Turkey. I was there 4 years ago. I bet especially our European members are familiar with that place. Simply magical, especially that there are ancient living and religious worship spaces hand dug inside many of these formations.
