Hopefully you can find your clipping Rick and make it a bit easier to read.

Not much said or written bout this stunning result, even Ross is a bit quite on it, l seem to remember he got into a bit of trouble as he was a "policeman speeding"?? by his boss's.

Was talk couple years ago with actor Russell Crowe about doing a movie on his rush around Oz, but again all gone quite? hmmmm.

I was under the impression that the (K)Z1300 was the fastest vehicle to have circumnavigated Australia & that record still stood, but it seems not the case then :( lol.

l too thought his for many years but wasn;t the case, l think this article refers to first 5 years after Ross's record 13 run and wasn't updated.

Note sure if bike No 68 is the one referred to in this article, first 13 in the country won on it's first race outing, not bad hey.

Pete, this was the first Z1300 that landed in Australia in 1979 (no. 68), the great Gary Thomas took it strait to Bathurst race track in NSW (at time was the greatest track in Australia for cars and bikes, but cars only now as too dangerous for bike racing) for the Arai Bathurst 300, he rode solo and won the race.

Note the dent/scrape marks on No 6 header pipe directly below crank cover, No 1 pipe was the same, balls of steel these riders.

Gary's still around in the racing scene.
