I have a 1985 and 1986 1300 Voyager. I am getting a code 12 from the DFI which I think means that the air temperature sensor is faulty.

Can anybody tell me where the sensor is and perhaps what the part number is if it really is bad and I need to get another one?

I think it is a bad wire. Sometimes I get the code, sometimes I do not.

Also, the fuel pump sometimes turn on with the key off. I think that also might be a wiring issue.

I found it. Thanks. It is on top of the air box towards the back of it. Nearly directly underneath the air compressor. I disconnected the blue, blue/red wire connector and the terminals look clean and good. I will test the wiring and sensor tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. On my 1986 bike, the sensor is near the back of the air box, on top, nearly directly underneath the compressor. It is very well hidden and it looks like it will be difficult to remove and install a new one if it comes to that.

I located the 2 wire connector for it (blue with a red stripe and solid blue) and disconnected it. The terminals look nice and clean. I will run an electrical check on the sensor and wire tomorrow. I never would have found it without your hints.

The thing about this code 12 that I am getting is that it comes and goes. I can start the bike and all is well. I shut if off, start it again and all is well. I turn it off, start it again and the code 12 comes back.

On another note, I have 2 voyagers, a 1985 and a 1986. The 1985 starts but has some issues which I am working through. The 1986 I just started to look at. It has no battery (which I ordered and should arrive in a day or two). it also has no working brakes. the front master cylinder was completely empty of fluid and whatever fluid used to be in there looked like old axle grease. The rear brake master cylinder was also empty, but looked relatively clean. I put fluid in the rear master cylinder reservoir and pumped the brake pedal a bunch of times. As it got hard, I noticed that brake fluid was squirting out of the rear caliper. I did not put fluid in the front master cylinder to see if the front brakes worked.

So, I guess rebuilding the front and rear brakes are in order. Can anyone recommend a reliable supplier of parts needed to rebuild the front and rear brake systems? I figure I should do the master cylinders, the calipers and pads on both bikes. replace the brake lines too if I cannot flush all the crud out of them.

as much as I remember the rear was hard to find
you can buy a new for around $15, probably not the best quality
or used from newer model, they are easy to find
if you need help with that let me know and I will find where I got them from
