Pete,

The Colourtune Plug will tell you all you need to know.

You mentioned earlier in the thread that you have one.............just use that & turn mixture screw out in 1/4 turns every 3 minutes of running until the cylinder fires up.

If you need to go more than 5.5 turns then the circuit is probably blocked.

Try removing screw altogether & look at the diameter of the screw tip & get some copper wire the same diameter as tip & push it down the hole to make sure its not blocked at the bottom where it enters the venturi / throat.

thanks for the mixture screw settings
i set mine to standard as in the book 1-3/4 turns and then started the bike for the first
time after the rebuild, nearly suffocated with all the fumes.
i checked the settings to be sure, but then i found your post on this forum.
so back down the shed armed with small screwdriver and reset all the mixtures to 3-1/2 turns
and what a transformation, after a small bit of adjustment by ear the engine is sweet.
unfortunately this has revealed a new problem, the temp gauge goes to the red line and the rad is still cold. thermostat buggered..... :(
at least its running nice now. ill do a colour tune when the stats sorted.
Thanks
Ian

1 main jet ? per carb?

You definitely have 5 running well judging by the photo.!!
What is interesting is that only 1 plug is not ok.

As its only 1 cylinder it MUST be a problem with the following on that cylinder only.

Plug.
Plug Lead.
Compression on that cylinder (valves or rings).
Mixture screw issue on cylinder 1 0nly.

As it shares a carb with cylinder 2 & the carb only has 1 main jet, a fuel problem would affect both cylinders, not just 1 as it feeds them both equal quantities of fuel.
Maybe a good idea is to turn the mixture screw IN on that cylinder by 1/2 a turn & try from there.

My 6 mixture screws vary from 3.5 to 4.5 turns OUT once set up with a Gunsons Colourtune Plug so it maybe just fine adjustment you need.?
