The weather in Scotland was reasonably mild for the time of year so I took the big old Z out for a spin. I gave her a wash and a polish so she’s looking pretty good for a 36 year old.
I’m intending to paint her back to the original luminous starlight blue when I have some spare cash. I temporarily painted it black with rattle cans because the old paint was really bad. The guy I bought her from claimed the mileage is genuine, I’ve had the Speedo out and there is no sign of it being tampered with, but I wouldn’t bet too much on it. The bike has been in a bad crash at some time in its life, so bad in fact that I rebuilt her on another frame, which I had sandblasted then powder coated. The bent frame might explain the low mileage.
I’ve been working on her for about a year now and I still have a bit to go, the good news is she’s running pretty good apart from being a bit Smokey on start-up.
I would like to thank the experts on this forum, because I would never have got her running without your help and advice. It was a nightmare, with glued in mixture screws on the carbs and seemingly endless electrical problems.

She's looking good McZed; nice after all your effort that you can get out on her now: bet it waa a wee bit chilly ?
Re Luminous Starlight Blue: I'm thinking of having my A1 (which is currently ebony) put back to standard: be keen to see some pics if you go that route. Would you paint her yourself or use a specialist spray shop ??

Hi Tonto. Yes, it was a bit cold, but it was nice to get the winter cobwebs blown away. I will get someone local to do the re-spray for me. At £80.00 a litre I don’t want to risk wasting the paint. I would like to count up how much I have spent on the bike so far, but I don’t want to frighten the bejesus out of myself. I’m sure it will be worth it in the end.

Looking good. And the bonus being yours is a runner. Spent 12 months on mine and was ok, but got no spark. If you need the services of someone to recover your seat to orig spec send me a pm. Had my orig unit blasted, powder coated, refoamed, cover and strap and chrome work done for £160 to a very high standard. Sold on ebay as managed to get a brand spanking new nos unit. Able to recomend a sprayer as well. Though a long way from yourself in north yorkshire. Again a top job.
