I have had the fuel/oil contamination happen on other bikes but always checked the site glass on the clutch cover where I knew it was an issue. Having said that I know I've run my GPz750 and Ducati 900MHR with oil contaminated by fuel with a lock up. Problem on my Z1300 is when I cleaned her up I couldn't find a 6 litre clutch cover so have a 5 litre one, so doesn't read as true. I guess the other alternative is to keep the fuel tank empty but for the time being I'm happy with the fuel system integrity.............

No the cover with the fill hole in it. From what I can tell there are three different ones with different oil capacity written at the top.

I thought the sump oil capacity was only a function of the sump casting (the oil 'pan') and the matching oil pick-up pipes perhaps, but do you think it requires a different clutch cover too?

The oil level sight-glass is not much higher than the bottom of the clutch cover, so I didn't think it can affect oil capacity, but was your point that you think the sight-glass may be at a different height on different versions of the clutch cover?

I'd always assumed the data cast into the cover / scre cap would vary according to the sump capacity fitted to that particular model, but not have any actual difference in it's dimensions.

Can anyone confirm?

I have two clutch covers in front of me. I don't know what models are they from, but the one with larger oil level viewing window has 5.3 liters on it, the other with small window has 4.6 liters written. Other than that, when it comes to capacity of these covers, they are completely identical, same capacity.

Out of Interest Stan, and perhaps to answer PZ's point, if you hold the two covers side by side, given that they have different sight-glass sizes, is there any difference between the two sets of min / max lines by each glass?

I'm guessing not, but...
