I would like to know if the 1980 KZ 1300 (touring frame) is the same for all KZ 1300s? I am considering turning my bike into a sport model with only the front fairing cowl to be used. Mike

There are 4 brackets on the rear of the frame that need some rework. A few members have made the changes. One member (can't remember who) fabbed up and added 2 brackets so that he could change his A2 back and forth to a B2. Basically, the front mount brackets for the tail section need to be moved forward? about an inch. The brackets for the turn signals need to be fabbed up and installed UNLESS you opt for the European tailight mount bracket which has the signal mounts incorporated in to it.

Have a look at this post. It shows the A2 brackets.

AS far as the seat brackets - no changes required. Just pull the pins and change out the seat.

Will a A seat fit the touring with the rear bags still on?

I did the mods to swap mine between A2 and B2.
I don't think you can use the A model seat and keep the luggage because of where the luggage frame mounts to rear seat. Also the shocks for the rear trunk/top-box go down to the rear mudguard
