Nope, no pin in this one, the sring sits inside the hollow bolt about 12mm deep, is it a different design or has a previous owner had it apart and lost the pin.

Found a google image and it seems the pin has been lost in the past , maybe that's why the bike got broken for spares! Can I find something suitable to do the job or does it have to be absolutely exact to locate and not drop out, slow progress at the moment but better than a disaster later on, it did ratchet into place when I fitted it.

I would not advise fitting it without the pin............its there for a good reason !!

If you look at your image from Google you have posted, you can actually scale the length of the pin against the length of the spring (obviously before you cut 10mm off) or the length of the tensioner body.
You can then use an alternative "PIN" of the same length and width that will fit inside the spring comfortably.

Maybe something like a rear light lense screw cut to size or something on those lines ????

It just stops the spring from becoming curved and mis-shaped inside the tensioner body and not being as strong and effictive as needs be.

Great, thanks Pete, another disaster averted, I'll get on that now and hopefully fire the motor up later today...fingers crossed I've got the rest of it right!

Excited update..pressed the button for 2 seconds and it fired up on 6 with no choke ticking over at 1000rpm, revved as clean as can be and sounded sweet with the stainless 6 into 2, no leaks from head gasket just a small drip of water from the connector pipe, new o ring will fix that. My eyes were watering in the shed through happiness and unburnt fuel, so carb tuning next..Good day at the office! Thanks for the help everyone..I'll be back for more shortly :side:

PS bonus, the water drip stopped after 5 mins running

Magic moments mate !

A great result and superb engineering with that wood screw........wished I had thought of it meself actually !

There is a career for you in rocket engineering my friend..... LOL !

Carb tuning is easy on a Z1300 but invest in a Gunstons Colortune Plug if you dont have one already...........they are superb, save a lot of time and let you actually SEE inside your combustion chambers to adjust mixtures to perfection.

Keep us updated on how things go.
