What size is the thread because it looks mighty like it will be a replacement for the K series BMW as well

Its M10 size thread, 0.9 pitch.

The switch thread is tapered so it "snugs" into the crankcase when it is tightened.

There's a bunch of different ones available once you start looking - main differences are the connector types and the pressure to activate. This one is 20KPA, there's 40, 50 also but I thought I'd go for the lower one as the max oil pressure on the 1300 is pretty low at around 28PSI.

Ah well no luck there, I need a 12m x 1mm parallel thread and it is prooving very hard to find except for OEM which cost 3 arms.

OK - so I said earlier that all attempts to revive the original switch had failed. Well, here's why:

Yep - looks like my bro thought it would be a good idea to remove it with a chisel at some point. Apparently, they don't like that

Anyway, here's the new one in it's place:

Works fine and for $15 it was a no brainer. Case closed ;)

You'd probably appreciate it if you put a 2" sleeve of waterproof heat shrink tubing over that new connection on the wire. it will save you having to figure out "what happened" a year from now when the oil pressure light won't come on.

Glad to hear you found a substitute oil pressure switch AND that you researched the switch and know at what pressure it comes on and off at. Well done!!

20 KPa is less than 3 psi, but if you loose the pump or run the oil low it would be essentially zero oil pressure.
