Rear Wheel Removal? was created by KEL
I have checked the manual and searched the site for instructions on rear wheel removal.
The manual says just up on the centre-stand, undo axle pull the axle to remove the wheel, no mention of the shaft drive uncoupling.
How should i attempt this to get a new tyre fitted?

Hello KEL:
The rear drive is separate from the wheel hub.
Just remove the wheel per the manual instructions and the wheel will separate from the final drive. The final drive stays attached to the swing-arm.
Don't forget the axle spacer that is internal, between the wheel hub and final drive.
Clean then lightly coat the axle, spacer, and collars with high temp axle grease.
Clean the male and female sides of the drive splines.
While apart, check the final drive oil seal for leaks, no leaks allowed in this area.
If you haven't changed the final drive oil in a while:
drain the final drive oil and flush with clean petroleum based 80/90 gear lube.
allow the oil to drain for about a 1/2 hour, then install the drain plug.
Fill final drive with RED-LINE synthetic 80/90 gear lube. (API GL-5 or equivalent)
Propeller shaft:
If your sliding joints have not been done in a while, don't forget to lube those every 30K km.
Swing arm bearings should be done in the same interval as the shaft sliding joints.
Be careful for the first 50 miles on the new tire.
Regards.

So just slide the axle out and it pulls away from the drive, yes?

Remove the rear axle, unbolt and move the rear brake caliper out of the way, and remove the axle spacer from the rear wheel. Then, standing on the left side (brake caliper side), wiggle/slide the wheel towards yourself to disengage the wheel hub splines from the final drive splines. The factory service manual provided by this site also suggests to unbolt the rear shock - see page 129. The wheel should then be able to drop down and away from the swingarm.
I'd recommend you apply a high pressure grease on those splines on reassembly - I like moly paste (molybdenum disulfide) grease.
