Yea, a couple of spacers are required. That's part of why they are so aggravating to get on without a third hand. My bike is a 1980 so no extra alternator.

BTW, if it's convenient for you (or anybody) to photograph the hardware that clamps the "saddles" to the down-tubes, that would be very helpful. I'm assuming it's some kind of hook arrangement.
The engine-mount bolt that goes from one side of the bike to the other will have to replaced with a longer one, or some all-thread, because of the spacer. I'd also appreciate very much any suggestions there.
