Brake Question, looking for a tip? was created by Yaegunp
I decided to look at the brakes and give them an overhaul, they have been working fine but have not been looked at for a very long time. Started on the front and they needed a real good clean as you would expect. Some of the parts were damaged on disassembly and wanted to know if anyone has a tip to remedy the problem(s).
First is the caliper holder shafts and specifically the friction boots. One of the friction boots has disintegrated completely, what can I use to replace these friction boots?
The top of the brake piston usually has some sort of compound in it and I have one piston where it is missing, can I still use that piston?
Appreciate any help

As far as the friction boots go, try and find some hose that is the same ID and outer size - possibly some non-braided fuel hose?
Not sure about the caliper piston, although many have a "puck" that sits inside the hollow of the piston to stop noise. All the ones I've seen on other bikes can be removed without any problems.

Thanks Hillsy, found this caliper set on fleebay that includes the friction boots and I need the dust covers anyway: -
Yep the puck you refer to is glued and permanent on the Z1300 pads. I shall try very judiciously without the puck as I won't get my new piston until probably the new year
