My '80 does this and it appears the "new" '79 as well. I attribute this to nothing more than the surface tension of the oil, particularly if it's a cooler day. Letting the engine oil temp. warm-up slightly and then pulling the clutch lever a few times alleviates the issue. Once free, there's no issue from day to day.
Install this when the bike is being started after a "rest". Clutch-plates are free by the time you're ready to ride.

Re: Clutch problem

Re: Clutch problem
1 day 11 hours agoEven if clutch is adjusted properly, always, always, always before starting I put it in first gear, pull clutch in, then rock and back and forth until clutch plates free. Find neutral, start, drop into first nice and easy... no KaKlunk...
wanted to write EXACTLY the same, but you mentionend it first
