Are you talking about the rubber dampner in the rear wheel hub?

It's a damper, works nothing like a slipper clutch it absorbs vibrations and smooths the transmission out.

You are right it's a damper. I had to go and look at the parts again and wrap my head around its function. This is why we need "Youngblood" around on the site to keep us Old Dawgs engaged and driving forward. I guess I must have  slipped a gear.
