Engine oil capacity

Help me out Guys.
Just done a filter and oil change on my 84 1300 Voyager.
Filling back up with fresh oil, I bought 2 x 4 litre motorcycle mineral oil.
Having emptied 1 bottle in, the sight glass is showing correct level.
I ran the bike for a few seconds just to pump the oil round and let it settle again.
Still showing correct level, now manual says 5.6L as I thought all DFI were.
Did any of the Voyagers have the early smaller sump on them.
There's no way another litre and a half is going in?
Cheers Mark.

Mark,

You need to run the bike up to full temperature (fan running) to ensure all parts of the engine (especially the top end) are full of fresh oil and the new oil filter has had chance to fully load itself with fresh oil.
This is due to the fact you have completely drained the engine of most of its oil before replenishing with new oil
You can then view your oil level 5 to 10 minutes after you stop the engine to get an accurate reading.

As you have a Voyager, my understanding is they all had the deep sump meaning the oil capacity should be around 5.6 litre.

Hope that helps ?

5.9 litres with an oil & filter change. Did you warm the engine before changing the oil?

I know at least 5 litres came out, how do I know..... I only had a 4 litre tub to drop it in, so had to screw the drain plug back in through the warm oil, then pour that into a larger container and then drain the rest out.
Maybe I haven't run it long enough to get the oil back round,.
I didn't want to run it too long but I suppose if its got 4 litres in, it'll pick up OK to distribute around engine, so I'll try again tomorrow and run it for longer I can always stick another litre in it first to be on the safe side.
Thanks Mark.

Are you checking the oil level with the bike on the center stand?
