A5 with DFI head
5 years 8 months ago
I have a A5 i am working on. i have a temp sender on the rear of the head. bike runs fine. was trying to establish why that would be there. someone has now informed me the head must have been changed as they only had the sender unit on DFI engines?
Can anyone clarify if this is correct?
will never know why head was changed i guess if true.?

Going from memory... There's a thermoastic switch to turn the rad fan on/off and a temp 'sender' for the temperature gauge. Isn't this the sender for the temp gauge (or do I have that backwards?)?

It's in the front.

Tad,
That sensor feeds engine temperature information to the DFI control box on the fuel injected ZN1300's. Part # 21176-1002. That part also fits a number of other Kawasaki models which have fuel injection SEE LINK

Hi. Yes i get that mate. What i was trying to establish was why i have it on a carb bike ?
So far consensus is
1 the head is from a fuel inj bike.. so past engine issues?
2. This bike is 1984 so last of the carbs. Did they start fitting new dfi heads on the factory line to the last of the carb bikes?
Just trying to find out all aspects of the bike.
If for instance it is a dfi head, are there any performance differences? Larger valves etc.

They never fitted DFI Heads to any carb models.
You CAN fit a DFI head to a carb bike, but not the other way round.
The fact the DFI head has different valves etc is no problem when used with carbs, so you are all good........just like when people fitted carbs to the GPZ1100B1 and B2 Inj Bikes.
Are you sure you dont have a full DFI engine ?

Why Have Four When You Can Have Six ?
